OYS + KDS Delegation Updates

The past several days have been filled with many activities for the delegates and the 8th grade. In addition to observing Simchat Torah by attending services at Temple Aliyah last Thursday evening, students spent much time bonding.

Students have been beyond busy these last few days!  They enjoyed a fun-filled Shabbat (thank you to the Tal family for hosting everyone), they explored downtown Los Angeles and the Grand Central Market, and visited the famous landmarks of Hollywood. Today, students spend the morning at the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles. During their visit at the Federation, they learned about all of the important support the Federation offers Jews not only in Los Angeles, but around the world. After lunch, students visited  the Museum of Tolerance. They learned about different social groups, bullying and its effects, and learned even greater detail about the Holocaust.

Tomorrow brings more adventures for the group as they head off to Universal Studios!

Welcome to Kadima Ort Yad Singalovski (OYS)

Delegates from OYS joined us on campus Monday morning. OYS students spent time on campus engaging with Kadima students and visited SOVA for a Tikkun Olam project. SOVA is the local food pantry providing free groceries and supportive services to those in need.  To learn more about SOVA, visit http://www.jfsla.org/sova.

Following their time at SOVA, the delegation and their 8th grade hosts joined the Kadima community at Sukkot B'Yachad (Together), the annual Kadima Sukkot gathering.  A few pictures are shared below, but many more are available on Kadima's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152755896815734.1073741851.260641045733&type=1.

On Tuesday, both OYS and KDS students visited the Gentle Barn (http://www.gentlebarn.org), an animal rescue organization with the goal of teaching people kindness and compassion to animals, each other and the planet. This activity was tied to the trip theme of 'Truth Springs fro the Earth: Nature as Teacher."

This morning, students are off to the Brandeis Institute for a day of hiking and team building, while learning about the Jewish camp experience.

Delegates from Israel Arrive Today

This morning, Kadima welcomed nine delegates and their chaperones visiting from Israel. They are from the Ort Yad Singalovski school in Tel Aviv and, like Kadima are part of the Los Angeles - Tel Aviv partnership of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles. As our sister school, we will be hosting our visitors for the next 10 days. Along with the eighth graders,  our guests will experience Jewish life in Los Angeles. Next spring, a group of Kadima delegates will be traveling to Israel as part of the exchange program with Ort Yad Singalovsky.  We are pleased to announce that our guests  arrived  safely this morning and were greeted by the 8th grade at Mishkan Tephilo, a synagogue in Venice. From there, they started their trip with sight seeing  in Venice Beach, and in the Santa Monica area.

Our delegates will be joining us at Sukkot b'Yachad Monday evening. Be sure to join in the fun and in welcoming our visitors to Kadima and to Los Angeles.
