4th and 5th Graders Heading Home

After two very eventful days, 4th and 5th graders are heading home.  They are currently en route to Sacramento for dinner then followed by their flight home.  The pictures below were taken this afternoon and includes their time at the Coloma Theatre.

4th and 5th Graders: Tin Smithing and Other Activities in Coloma

The 4th and 5th graders had an amazing day yesterday and arrived back at their hotel ready for a good night's rest.  This morning they boarded their bus and returned to the Earth Trek site in Coloma where they worked on tin smithing.  Later in the day, they will visit a museum, gold mining displays, Sutter's Mill, and Sutter's Fort before heading back to Sacramento for dinner and their flight home.

4th and 5th Graders Explore Earth Trek

Kadima 4th and 5th graders visiting the Sacramento area made their way to Earth Trek in Coloma, on the American River earlier this afternoon. This is where gold was discovered in 1848 that started the California Gold Rush.  At Earth Trek, they heard from a "Pioneer Woman" and learned about life during California's pioneer era.

4th and 5th Grade in Sacramento

The 4th and 5th graders have arrived safely in Sacramento and have begun their tour of the capital. Their first stop was the California State Senate Chamber.

Today and tomorrow, Kadima's 4th and 5th grade will be traveling to Sacramento and the surrounding area. The pictures shown below were taken at Burbank airport this morning prior to their departure.  As news, pictures and updates become available, they will be posted to the blog and updates will be sent via email. 


The stops on their tour today include the Capitol, the California Vietnam Memorial and presentations depicting Pioneer Women, Native Americans, and Pioneer Music. 

Final Update: 8th Grade Delegates in Israel Travel South and to Jerusalem Before Heading Home

The last two days have been filled with much adventure for Kadima delegates in Israel.  In addition to traveling to the southern part of the country, they enjoyed camel rides, made it to the top of Masada, and floated in the Dead Sea.  The next day they headed to Jerusalem where they spent time at Mount Herzel at Herzel's gravesite, visited Yad VaShem (Israel's Holocaust memorial), had lunch at Sami's at the Machneh Yehudah Shuk, and made a final stop in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Jewish Quarter and HaKotel (the Wailing Wall).  This will be our last update from Israel, as the students enjoy their final Shabbat in the holy land before heading home.  We wish them safe travels.

Israel Update: Yon Ha'Atzmaut and Tikkun Olam

On Yom Ha'atzmaut the students had a typical Israeli exprience - they went to the National Park, heard Idan Reichel and Eyal Golan in concert, saw fireworks and experienced joy and celebrations. Later they had Mangal (Israeli BBQ) at one of the host's homes.

On Wednesday morning our students got involved in a Tikkun Olam project. They went to Beit Eliyahu, a soup kitchen for needy people that serves 150 meals a day and delivers meals to approximately 700 homes. Our students helped pack lunches, cut celery and potatoes, peeled damaged cabbage leaves and then cleaned the kitchen. Mrs. Yalovsky and Rabbi Bluman were very impressed with their dedication, willingness to help, and their good spirits - they sang through the whole process!  As they were about to leave, they saw some of the patrons of the soup kitchen - knowing that their hard work and dedication was able to feed those not able to feed themselves.
